Class Name: CO020-Stayin' Alive. PC Tricks they don't teach so they can sell more.
Location: N Pinellas (my Ozona home) Category: COMPUTERS Teacher: Chris Clement
Days: by appointment Time: by appointment, morning or early afternoon
Description: I could do much of what I do now in 1985 but not everything from that good time has survived. Computers make up an industry and are not necessarily a panacea for little entrepreneurs. How do I keep the darned things from draining my energy? My Dad said it was best in the 50's when he had a secretary. Well. I can't change that but I can show you some neat tricks. This class assumes some lack of fear of a screwdriver and opening things up. •learn to make lists and sort/sift them •see how to backup everything and/or move to a new machine •turn on a pc with a "soft switch" that failed - is it the motherboard or power supply? Why replace either? •stop SPAM dead •never lose your data •extend free trial periods •recover data from a failed drive.

This tutorial class meets with 1-2 attendees in my Ozona home. We have two dogs that can be excluded from the computer/teaching area but there is always some lingering evidence of their cohabitation. It won't be cancelled due to insufficient number but it can fill quickly.

Class Name: CO030-Programming MS.net, how-to's and workarounds
Location: N Pinellas (my Ozona home) Category: COMPUTERS Teacher: Chris Clement
Days: by appointment Time: by appointment, morning or early afternoon
Description: I started programming in 1974 with Cobol and did a fair amount of Fortran, PL/1 ans Assembler. The industry changed radically in the 90's and once-competent folks were confused with new terminolgy so the vendors could sell "certs" (PhD's with a shelf life of 18 months). Phooey! I did a recent student records project for a university that works just fine. I'll show it to you here and where my old skills were more than useful. Regardless of your background and experience, there is always something to be learned from another person's approach to a problem. •add, change, delete records with a central server SQL database •print straight columns for reports •pass variables around without a hassle •get/show data via the Web
